Hoping to take a recently-patented automotive transmission design to the next level, Ohio-based startup Avotronics has taken to the people and launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo
The “Aurtronic” Transmission redesigns traditional automatic and manual transmissions by eliminating multiple gears and clutches and replacing them with a single planetary gear. The company claims it can simultaneously improve fuel economy, reduce emissions, and provide a more responsive driving experience.
Crowdfunders who participate in the $5,000 level will get a prototype transmission retrofitted into the car of their choice.
